The global climate 2001-2010: a decade of climate extremes

This report relates the findings of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) regarding the rise in global temperatures over the past ten years and the correlating rise in the frequency and severity of disaster events. The report is divided into six chapters: (i) chapter one assesses temperature data and analyzes it by continent; (ii) chapter two assesses global and regional precipitation data; (iii) chapter three reviews large scale variability and oscillation indices; (iv) chapter four evaluates extreme weather events, including case studies on heatwave, coldwave, flood, drought, cyclone, and storm surge events; (v) chapter five assesses the atmospheric content and its relation to climate; (vi) and chapter six assesses the cryosphere and sea level, including a case study on unseasonably warm weather in Canada and its impact on critical infrastructure.
