Safer development planning

Asian disaster management news, volume 19/2013:

This issue focuses specifically on safer development planning topics in Asia-Pacific, in preparation for the Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) taking place from March 25-27 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, which works hand-in-hand with governments in Asia-Pacific through Priority Implementation Partnerships to integrate disaster risk reduction (DRR) into the development planning process.

The articles specifically address: (i) mainstreaming in changing extremes - emerging pathways to integrate risk foresight and climate services into development processes; (ii) Notes from Bangladesh - DRR mainstreaming and internalization in the national and community systems; (iii) a country spotlight on Bhutan, including an interview with Mr. Namgay Wangchuk, Director General of Disaster Management, who explains how the mountainous country overcame mainstreaming obstacles, and one country official’s experience; and (iv) perspectives on mainstreaming by AusAID, protecting development gains in Nepal and getting communities involved in Malaysia.
