Participatory 3 dimensional mapping for reducing the risk of disasters in Irosin, Philippines

This paper addresses the integration of a larger array of stakeholders as one of the most pressing contemporary needs for enhancing disaster risk reduction (DRR). It asserts that these stakeholders should include a large range of actors in DRR such as local communities, local and national government, scientists, NGOs, faith groups, school communities and the private sector. It features the use of a participatory 3-Dimensional mapping project (P3DM) to facilitate the participation of a large array of stakeholders in DRR in the municipality of Irosin in the Philippines, at risk from a volcano, typhoons, flooding, flash floods and landslides. Through this example, the article states that their participation allows for the integration of local and scientific knowledge as well as top-down and bottom-up actions. The article also includes a list of the materials required as well as the steps to be taken in conducting a P3DM for DRR project.
