Capitalising social resource: a community initiative for urban safety

This document captures a good practice from Sylhet, Bangladesh, where community volunteers and the existing community networks have demonstrated disaster response for local people and drawn their attention towards the necessity of disaster preparedness, as part of the implementation of effective urban safety programmes. The document reports on a community drill, initiated Market Level Mock Drill financed by Waves Community Volunteer Group in Sylhet and implemented in close collaboration with Ward Disaster Management Committee, Fire Service and Civil Defense and Surma Market Committee. The event was supported by Islamic Relief Worldwide under 6th DIPECHO Action Plan.
