Recommendations of the round table on women's added value civil protection

This documents presents the recommendations elaborated during the Round Table on The Value Added of Women in Civil Protection organised with the support of Algerian Civil Protection in Algiers on 26 March 2012. The document includes Round Table participants’ suggestions and expectations on how gender issues may be better mainstreamed in the overall disaster management cycle, from disaster risk reduction to response and recovery.

The meeting represented a good opportunity to exchange views between 30 civil protection professionals (mostly women) from Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Jordan, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Portugal, Slovenia and Tunisia, who discussed about women’s actual and potential contribution to disaster risk management activities. A fruitful exchange of ideas on progress made so far took place and proposals for improving women’s role in civil protection in the Mediterranean countries were thoroughly discussed.
