Ending drought emergencies: Will the promises be met?


This paper concentrates on the drought component where the key strategies for overcoming drought emergencies were, following a summit held in Nairobi on September 8th-9th, 2011 when Governments of East Africa and Horn Africa came together to develop a strategy to end drought emergencies. The strategies proposed include: (i) strengthen adaptive capacity and livelihood choices; (ii) promote integrated land and water management; and (iii) Fast track climate change adaptation initiatives.
