Community managed disaster risk reduction: experiences from the horn of Africa

This publication captures lessons in three horn of Africa countries of Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. These lessons are based on implementation of Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) programmes between 2008 and 2010. It presents stories of real communities struggling with conflict, drought management and loss of lives and property through floods. It provides a context within which the communities exist but most important, their journey from hopelessness to restoration and resilience. It gives a voice to the poor in society who are doing small things in great ways with evidence-based impacts. The experiences shared in this book show people who are forward looking, empowered and taking charge of their lives.
