Flood control: wetland values and functions


This paper presents information on wetlands and their value in retaining heavy rainfall and preventing possible flooding downstream. It gives examples from the United States of America and China. It covers the basic ideas, and wherever possible assigns monetary values, in order to help demonstrate the importance of wetlands in the most fundamental economic and cost-benefit terms.
