Gender standard for disaster risk management: Badakhshan, Afghanistan

This document is the first-ever policy plan to mainstream gender in disaster risk management in Afghanistan, Badakhshan province. Advancement of women is a central to Afghanistan's pursuit of provincial peace and reconstruction, gender equality and the empowerment of women in all spheres of life.

As one of the poorest and most inaccessible region in the country marked with lack of basic infrastructure, facilities and means of communication, Badakhshan is a province is highly prone to natural disasters and therefore implementation of "Gender standard for disaster risk management" is a high level benchmark and an important step forward under the framework of National Action Plan for the Women of Afghanistan (NAPWA) and the ANDS.
