This document sets out the government's disaster management policy for the British Virgin Islands (BVI). It involves all government institutions, the private sector and civil society and other players, as well as all activities related to disaster management.
The objective of the policy is to establish necessary systems, structures, programmes, resources, capabilities and guiding principles for reducing disaster risks and preparing for and responding to disasters.
The document presents BVI’s institutional and legal framework for disaster management, and discusses the role of private and non-governmental sectors, the warning system, response mechanisms and disaster recovery measures.
