The joint Sendai Statement was given by the Minister of Finance of Japan and the World Bank President at the Sendai Dialogue on mainstreaming disaster risk management (DRM) in national development strategies and international cooperation, which aims to further strengthen the global commitment for managing disaster risks for resilient growth and development. The statement puts emphasis on (i) the need for a comprehensive approach to DRM, based on an improved understanding of risks that informs policy planning and investment programs (ii) the acceleration of efforts to integrate disaster risk management in all development policy and investment programs and (iii) the importance of increasing technical assistance and financial support from Japan to vulnerable developing countries for building resilience to disasters.
