Uzbekistan: Statement to the United Nations 66th General Assembly thematic debate on disaster risk reduction

A statement by the United Nations General Assembly's permanent representative of Uzbekistan, stating the UN's role in mobilizing the efforts and activities of the world community during periods of global natural disasters. Issues addressed: (i) global warming and its affect on climate change creating natural disasters and the state policies and recovery aimed at mitigating these disasters; (ii) the likelihood of global warming creating frequent and intense heat waves, increased wind speed in cyclones, and worsening drought; (iii) the negative human impact on Central Asia's nature and environment; and (iv) the destructiveness of natural disasters to urban and industrial infrastructure.

The statement emphasizes the joint effort necessary to facilitate the identification and sustainable formula for mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.
