The objective of the currently ongoing fourth International Disaster and Risk Conference in Davos is to 'find pathways to a resilient society'. Mr. Syed Shahnawaz Ali and Mr. M. Mizanur Rahman of Islamic Relief Bangladesh pose the question on the pages of The Daily Star: 'Don't we find a gradual change in the standpoint which the international drivers in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction were concentrated on earlier?' They go on to conclude that it time to identify specific goals for disaster risk management at the global as well as the local level; to focus on promoting resilient societies and for governments and international agencies to take concrete actions.
