A devastating tsunami, which was triggered by a gigantic landslide at the bottom of the Norwegian Sea, hit the coast of Norway about 7000 years ago. The 4 to 12 meter high waves wiped out many coastal settlements. Dr Ilan Kelman, a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for International Climate and Environmental Research writes in The Foreigner that similar disasters may happen again and that people should be prepared. Dr Kelman adds:
"Communities should work together to identify particularly vulnerable people and to ensure that everyone has a family emergency plan for helping themselves. Tsunami or not, you can still be prepared!"
