South Africa: Cape Town steps up disaster risk reduction campaign

Media release
NO. 461 / 2012

The City of Cape Town is stepping up its public awareness campaign with the introduction of a community-based educational theatre programme in informal settlements across the Cape Metropolitan Area.

This year, the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre will be using theatre and drama as a vehicle to raise the level of awareness in areas where communities are at risk to the dangers of floods.

This campaign offers a range of practical tips to mitigate against these hazards and to ensure a state of readiness by communities for unforeseen emergencies and disastrous situations.

Music, dance, audience participation, comedy and drama will be used to educate vulnerable communities regarding the “Protect yourself against Floods ” campaign.
