Kenya: Using technology to counter floods

In this article, the East African focuses on three effective ways to prevent and mitigate the disastrous effects of flood in Kenya and in the East African region: spatial information technology, including GIS and space-based satellite navigation systems; community based early warning systems, and an institutionalized flood management system. According to Pauline Muthigani, it is essential to ensure that the most vulnerable communities can benefit from such technologies.
