Alertnet reports that a new government website was set up in Ethiopia to help farmers to cope with climate change related unpredictable weather with giving them free access to meteorological data and analytical tools.
It is hoped that they will be able to identify trends in changing weather patterns and improve their crop yields by using the geographically precise information culled from local records and combined with satellite data.
According to Hailemariam from the National Meteorological Agency, promoting and sustaining the service pose challanges. Training key target groups, keeping the skilled professionals, and improving the quality of Internet access are other tasks to be dealt with in the near future.
