Haiti: New opportunities for Haiti and the Caribbean Community

Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI) says that the Caribbean Community (Caricom) can play role in providing technical and professional support to Haiti. In a report by Kristy Ramnarine in the Trinidad Express he said, 'By linking with Haiti in areas of business, particularly in the fields of reconstruction, agriculture and light manufacturing—areas targeted to jump-start the Haitian economy—and by drawing Haiti into the Caricom network of education, health, tourism, disaster risk reduction and environmental protection, all elements of functional cooperation, Haiti will benefit and it is likely Caricom, if it positions itself correctly, can also benefit.'
