Mayors from Bonn, Germany; Mexico City; Saint Louis, Senegal; Larreynaga-Malpaisillo, Nicaragua; Karlstad, Sweden and the Provincial Governor of Albay, the Philippines were the first to launch the campaign globally during the First World Congress on Cities and Adaptation to Climate Change in Bonn, yesterday.
Two more launches took place today with more cities committing to getting ready, reducing the risks and becoming resilient to disasters.
The launch in the Americas will be held at the Andean Community of Nations headquarters in Lima, Peru, where the mayors of Santa Tecla, El Salvador and Port-au-Prince, Haiti will be signing up to the 2010-11 World Disaster Reduction Campaign ‘Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready’.
At the International Disaster and Risk Conference (IDRC) in Davos, Switzerland, Baofeng County, P.R. China and the City of Davos will join the campaign in a plenary session partly devoted to the campaign launch.
