ANDROID disaster resilience network

ANDROID aims to promote co-operation and innovation among European Higher Education Institutes (HEI) to increase society's resilience to disasters of human and natural origin. The network's teaching and research is concerned with what resilience is, what it means to society, and how societies might achieve greater resilience in the face of increasing threats from natural and human induced hazards. The network will create a European approach that will help us understand the attributes that enable physical, socio-cultural, politico-economic and natural systems to adapt, by resistance or changing in order to reach and maintain an acceptable level of functioning. The network will also raise awareness and promote a common understanding among stakeholders of the importance of disaster resilience education and the essential role of European HEIs in improving society's ability increase disaster resilience.

Asia regional task force on urban risk reduction

To facilitate interactions among different stakeholders, the Asia Regional Task Force on Urban Risk Reduction, established in a meeting in Kobe, Japan in January 2008, is coordinated by the UNISDR Hyogo Office in Kobe. The Task Force is currently represented by 21 member organizations, and is open for expansion. The goal of the Task Force is to enhance decisive actions to reduce risk and increase community resilience in the urban areas in the Asia region. The Task Force promotes the collective activities of its member organizations. It will work in line with the HFA for the region.

Ecosystems and Livelihoods Adaptation Network (ELAN)

ELAN enhances poor and marginalized people's resilience to the impacts of climate change by integrating ecosystem and right-based approaches into adaptation policies and practices.

ELAN is founded on a need for shared experiences, further research and increased capacity to implement innovative and practical ecosystem and livelihood solutions to adaptation and risk reduction based on the latest information and the diffusion of knowledge among adaptation practitioners and policy-makers. ELAN is creating a global network of scientists, policy makers and practitioners dedicated to supporting the integration of sound ecosystem management in adaptation policies, plans and programmes – especially in the world’s most vulnerable countries.

Green Recovery and Reconstruction Toolkit (GRRT) CoP

The Green Recovery and Reconstruction Toolkit (GRRT) is a training program designed to increase awareness and knowledge of environmentally sustainable disaster response approaches. The GRRT is made of ten modules which are designed to be delivered in a one-day training workshop: (i) opportunities after disasters - introduction to green recovery and reconstruction; (ii) project design; (iii) monitoring and evaluation; (iv) environmental impact assessment tools and techniques; (v) green guide to strategic site selection and development; (vi) green guide to materials and the supply chain; (vii) green guide to construction; (viii) green guide to water and sanitation; (ix) green guide to livelihoods; and (x) green guide to disaster risk reduction and greening organizational operations.

Radix - Radical Interpretations of Disaster

Radix is meant as a home for discussion, working papers, opinion pieces, resources, links that can help to develop radical interpretations of and radical solutions for all disasters in all parts of planet earth. Radix welcomes any material that proposes to deal with fundamental issues such as human rights, respect for diversity, translation of available knowledge into action, the links among disasters, economic development, and politics.
