A representative for the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction stresses that the recovery efforts in Haiti could be jeopardized in the coming weeks, with the rainy season approaching. The increasing number of deaths in Haiti requires that there is a strengthened effort to build the capacity of the national government and municipal authorities, to take leadership in long-term planning and application of better building codes.
