Job description

GEM, the Global Earthquake Model, is a non-profit, international effort to collaboratively improve earthquake risk assessment and understanding worldwide. Together with hundreds of collaborators around the world they are developing global datasets, scientific models and a unique, open-source software tools and a platform for communication and calculation of all aspects of earthquake risk, and you could be a part of it! GEM is well connected to the larger international open source, earthquake science and disaster mitigation communities, and interacting with them is part of the experience.

They are looking for a communications and outreach officer that can work directly with GEM’s Relations and Communications coordinator on developing and maintaining GEM’s communication tools and resources. They are looking for someone with a background in communications, and at least 3 years of experience in communications and/or outreach in an international context.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Writing news releases, speeches and articles
- Editing and organizing the publication of documents and articles online and offline
- Collection / development of communications material and input with collaborators worldwide
- Implementation of GEM’s social media strategy

Contract type
