CLOSED: Disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation internship

Role description

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain a deeper understanding of the humanitarian and development sector. It will enable you to gain an insight into disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and operational support and also understand how a busy international NGO operates.

The main purpose of the internship is to support the day-to-day activities of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation team team, within the Programme Policy and Quality department, and to provide specific support in relation to projects and activities undertaken by the team.

Hours/ week: 3-5 days a week (depending on availability and workload) for 6 months (8 hours a day)
Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities

Assist with the day-to-day running of the DRR & CCA team, including but not limited to the following:
- Research activities for ongoing projects
- Compilation of information and development of reports as required
- Assist in the preparation of trainings e.g. DRR/CCA workshops, Participation training
- Interaction across several teams and departments for bringing development and humanitarian, programme and policy work together
- Serve as a contact point for the DRR & CCA team within SCUK as required
- Assist with other general administration tasks to support the DRR & CCA team on an ad hoc basis as and when required

- Experience of working in an office environment
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Experience of general administrative work
- Experience of working in both a team and alone
- Understanding of and commitment to humanitarian work
- Permit to work in the UK

Desirable

- Experience of/ ability to work with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds
- Experience/ knowledge of climate change issues and/ or disaster risk reduction
- Experience/ knowledge of child rights issues/ working with children
- Experience of working or living in a developing country
- French or Spanish language skills an asset

Working contacts

- Internal: Members of the PPQ Department, other departments within Save the Children UK.
- External: Save the Children country programmes, other Save the Children staff (based in London and globally), Representatives from other agencies as appropriate (donor and implementing)

Child Protection Level

Level 1 – the responsibilities of the post do not require the post holder to have contact with children or young people.
Note: travel to interview will not be reimbursed.
