Ekurhuleni has an approved policy of the Municipal Council which supports disaster risk reduction as part of its Disaster Management responsibilities
A Risk and vulnerability assessment was undertaken at great cost in 2007 and currently plans are being developed to begin a community based risk assessment programme.
The Municipality is connected to the SA Weather Services and uses information to inform residents via the local radio stations of impending events.
Awareness programmes are geared towards project at shopping centres.
A new awareness project is in the very early stages of development.
Building plans are well developed.
The City has an approved Spatial Development Framework with Local SDF's in place which guide development and reduces disaster risk.
Preparedness plans are well developed and form part of the Integrated Development PLan (IDP) in terms of legislative requirements.
