Mission

Proshika's mission is to conduct an extensive, intensive, and participatory process of sustainable development through empowerment of the poor.

Its main objectives are: i) structural poverty alleviation; ii) environmental protection and regeneration; iii) improvement in women's status; iv) increasing people's participation in public institutions; and v) increasing people's capacity to gain and exercise democratic and human rights. It also manages a specific programme on disaster management.

Policies and Programmes in DRR

Disaster Management and Preparedness Programme (DMPP)

The activities of DMPP are divided into two major categories: i) providing post-disaster assistance, and ii) disaster preparedness. This programme was put in place in 1984 so that all-out support could be provided to the disaster-affected people of the country, to reduce their vulnerability, from a series of lessons learned in disaster management. Proshika has set a process in motion through which it can rush to the hapless people to reduce their sufferings and ensure their rehabilitation in the shortest time possible. Proshika also offers disaster management training to its staff as well as group members to enhance their capacity.
