EMA is responsible for the country’s preparedness and for establishing prospective development policy in the field of civil protection Objectives of EMA:
- Implementing the government’s policy concerning civil protection and raising the country’s level of preparedness for emergency situations;
- Preventing the consequences of emergency situations, lessening and cleaning-up all their consequences, establishing and implementing civil protection programmes;
- Coordinating and organising civil protection activities;
- Organizing governmental study of solutions and of projects concerning emergency situations and their origins;
- Organizing and implementing training in the field of civil protection and survival in emergency situations;
- Organising government control concerning civil protection of industrial activities and ensuring safe use of mineral resources;
- Organizing and preparing governmental administration, local self-governing bodies and administrative staff to implement civil protection procedures during emergency situations, and training professional personnel;
- Participating in, organizing and coordinating rehabilitation and rescue activities in emergency situations, fielding adequate forces for that purpose and preparing them accordingly. Ensuring cooperation between governmental, departmental and public
(volunteer) rescue organizations;
- Organizing and promoting international cooperation concerning civil protection problems;
- Organizing the certification of rescuers’ activities.
