New Swiss nuclear plants on hold as earthquake risks examined

Following the events in Japan, the Federal Council has declared a new moratorium on nuclear plants. Authorities were examining three requests for new nuclear reactors but those procedures are now on hold. Swiss nuclear plants may not ever see a tsunami but they’ve been built to withstand an earthquake with a magnitude of seven. WRS’s Pete Forster talks to Domenico Giardini, a professor and director of the Swiss Seismological Service at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich or ETHZ.
