HFA Monitor

‘HFA Monitor’ is the ISDR system’s online tool to monitor, review and report on progress and challenges in the implementation of disaster risk reduction and recovery actions at the national level, in accordance with the Hyogo Framework’s priorities.

The tool has been designed and coordinated by the ISDR secretariat and will be hosted on Prevention Web. Inputs to the online tool will lead to the generation of comprehensive National Progress Reviews for the period 2007-09, and will give countries easy access to its disaster risk information and monitoring trends in progress over the years.

Designated national authority/ HFA focal points will have access to the HFA Monitor online tool from May 2008 onwards. Focal points will receive an email notification with a user id and password from the ISDR secretariat in late April 2008 to enable access to the online tool in May via PreventionWeb country pages.

When working online is inconvenient, you may download a Microsoft Word ‘HFA Monitor’ sample template from the ‘Key documents’ section of your country page via PreventionWeb.

The sample template replicates, to the extent possible, the online HFA Monitor tool. Please download it and familiarize yourself with the requirements in advance of accessing the HFA Monitor online tool in May 2008.

The HFA Monitor templates will be available to download from PreventionWeb in 5 languages – English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian.

The ISDR secretariat recommends that national focal points use this sample ‘working’ template to begin the national consultation processes to review progress and challenges in implementation of risk reduction and recovery actions. It will help you to discuss and record inputs from various partner consultations in a systematic manner.

When the online HFA Monitor online tool is accessible on PreventionWeb in May 2008, we request the designated national focal point to feed in all relevant analysis and information collected from partner consultations recorded in the sample template thus far into the online tool. This sample template will continue to be available as an easy-to-download format from PreventionWeb to facilitate ongoing national consultations and analysis.

User guidance and technical assistance notes for the HFA Monitor will be made available on PreventionWeb in April 2008.
