Launch of The Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction, Kingdom of Bahrain, 17-18 May, 2009
The United Nations is launching the first global report uncovering how disaster risk is intensively concentrated in a very small portion of the earth's surface and unevenly distributed. Based on more than 30 years of disaster data, the report highlights three main risk drivers that will be magnified by climate change and proposes 20 recommendations to help make the world safer.
The Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction will be unveiled in the Kingdom of Bahrain on 17-18 May by Ban Ki Moon, United Nations Secretary-General at the Ritz - Carlton Hotel in Manama, Bahrain at a ceremony hosted by the Bahrain Government in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of Bahrain and Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Media are invited to the launch ceremony in Manama and to the press conference scheduled at 1 pm (tbc) on 17 May.
