GeoNet turns 15 - what have we learned about earthquakes in that time?

22 Jul 2016, Stuff, Fairfax Digital, Fairfax New Zealand Ltd

Up until 2005, gathering data on earthquakes in New Zealand involved phone calls to farmers and snail mail. Now 600 monitoring instruments work in unison around the country to spit out real-time information. GeoNet's focus is event reporting – providing rapid information on where, when, and magnitude, but impact reporting would provide near real-time information.
