Climate change may accelerate infectious disease outbreaks

12 Oct 2017, CU Anschutz

A new study shows that climate change can spur outbreaks of infectious diseases such as Zika, malaria, and dengue fever. After analysing an earthquake-afflicted area in Ecuador, the study concludes that infectious diseases spiked after the quake, with a 12-fold increase in Zika cases. The findings of the study can be used to identify and protect vulnerable communities.
