The Chiloé palafitos survived the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that shook Chile on December 25. As they are built with lumber - one of the materials that works best with earthquakes because of its flexibility - they came through without any major problems. The building structure permits them to move along with the tremors and doesn’t oppose resistance to them.
