Sierra Leone: Freetown flood disaster was '90 percent man-made'

The August landslides and floods in Freetown resulted in between 500 and 1,000 deaths. The causes of the disaster can largely be attributed to human activities, including deforestation, haphazardous structures, and urban sprawl. While the event can act as a catalyst for change, it will require engagement at every level, in particular at a political and administrative level.
