Implementation guide on tourism

This guide will focus on business continuity management practices, risk assessments and development of a disaster-safe hotel certification programme. A second edition will address the integration of the tourism sector into national and local disaster risk management planning and policy development. Concept note

The Sendai Framework outlines key areas on integrating disaster risk reduction with tourism. Among them are promoting and integrating disaster risk management approaches throughout the industry, given the often heavy reliance on tourism as a key economic driver. It also calls for the promotion and the development of quality standards, such as certifications and awards for disaster risk management, and the use of business continuity management practices with the participation of the private sector, civil society, professional associations, scientific organizations and the United Nations.
