Implementation guide for Sendai Framework target 5 - national and local strategies

These guides will address the implementation Sendai Framework Target 5 - Substantially increase the number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies by 2020. The Sendai Framework calls for the adoption and implementation of national and local disaster risk reduction strategies and plans, across different timescales, with targets, indicators and time frames. The aim is to prevent the creation of risk, reduce existing risk and strengthen economic, social, health and environmental resilience.

  • This guide will provide examples of experiences and good practice in the review and development of national strategies for disaster risk reduction in line with the Sendai Framework. It will also elaborate key elements for comprehensive national strategies for disaster risk reduction that integrate national efforts on the Sustainable Development Goals.
