Sendai FrameworkWords Into Action

Implementation guide on ecosystems-based disaster risk reduction

Focusing on implementation, this guide on ecosystems aims to support primarily local actors in establishing and capacitating the partnerships required to connect demand for resilience with demand for protection of ecosystem services in specific watersheds, deltas and drylands. The guidance will provide experience and good practice in making links to related national plans and strategies, building partnerships and capacity.

    Concept note

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction identifies poor land management, unsustainable use of natural resources and declining ecosystems as underlying risk drivers that need to be addressed. Recognizing the transboundary impact of environmental conditions on disaster risk, the Sendai Framework calls for work on ecosystems to be undertaken at appropriate scales.
