This guide will support culturally-sensitive approaches to implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction with particular attention to the technical and social dimensions of protecting cultural heritage.

  • The Sendai Framework aims to achieve a substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses including in the cultural assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries. Implementation requires integrated and inclusive cultural measures that prevent and reduce hazard exposure and vulnerability to disaster, increase preparedness for response and recovery, and thus strengthen resilience.
