Implementation guide for Sendai Framework target 4 – critical infrastructure

These guides will focus on experience and lessons learned in the promotion of resilience in new and existing critical infrastructure, including water, transportation and telecommunications, as well as educational and health facilities. One guide will cover issues such as cost-benefit analysis, and will provide comments on existing practices by various professionals involved in critical infrastructure development, maintenance and upgrading. Another guide will provide concrete advice to governments on policy and planning for school safety implementation, in particular related to safe learning facilities, school disaster management, and risk reduction education.

    Promoting resilient construction of buildings and infrastructure, and social aspects of infrastructure resilience is one of the global targets agreed by countries in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Government operations and business activities depend heavily on reliable public infrastructure and utilities, efficient urban systems an educated workforce and reliable public services

  • Concept note: Implementation guide for Sendai Framework target 4 – promoting and implementing school safety - Topic 2

    The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction calls for the development of national risk reduction plans by 2020. Critical infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, is recognized as a priority area to achieve sustainable development and support Sendai Framework implementation by 2030. It is crucial to support governments in integrating school safety as one priority area of their plans.
